How to Feed Uva Ursi Leaves to Horses

Uva Ursi leaves are a natural way to cure some health problems in horses. They can be given to horses suffering from bladder problems, to treat fluid retention and to boost immunity. Uva Ursi leaves are also used to strengthen a horse's urinary tract by acting like a muscle for the bladder. These leaves are found in feed stores, equine supplement companies and other horse-product catalogs and online stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Use whole Uva Ursi leaves for a mild treatment for several ailments your horse may have. These ailments may include kidney problems, fluid retention and inconsistent bowels and can help to boost immunity and strengthen your horse's urinary tract.

    • 2

Mix a small pinch, or one ounce, of leaves in your horse's feed. Mix the feed well so the horse eats all of the feed and leaves. Most horses don't notice the taste of the leaves since it is such a small amount, especially when mixed with an all-grain sweet feed.

    • 3

Add a small pinch, or one ounce, of the Uva Ursi leaves to a pint of boiling water to make a tea. Strain the water and add it to the horse's feed.

Use the leaves every other day for a short period of time. Long-term use is not recommended and should be mentioned to your veterinarian if he sees your horse for any problems.
