How to Give a Horse a Liquid Wormer

Regular worming helps to rid your horse of internal parasites that can sap its health and vitality. Even the newest horse owners, who may not be comfortable yet with the various methods of horse care, must be able to worm their horse. 1. Worming with a horse with a liquid wormer

    • 1

Purchase a liquid horse wormer. There are many options to choose from. Visit a local feed store or animal supply store and ask for assistance. You can even visit your veterinarian and ask for some liquid horse wormer. Know your horse's weight before you ask a vet for wormer, as the dosage is based on weight.

    • 2

Prepare the dose. If you have a store-bought brand, it will have dosing instructions on the label that will direct you how much to give your horse per body weight. It is important to follow dosing instructions carefully.

    • 3

Run warm water into a single pound of sweet feed; about 3 cups should be adequate. You want it wet. Add a cup of sugar, and then add your dose of wormer to the mush as it is cooling. Stir in the wormer thoroughly.

    • 4

Ensure your horse is good and hungry. A great way to do this is keep them stalled or in a dry lot for a good eight hours or so without anything to eat. Then present them with your warm mash of sweet feed, sugar and liquid wormer.

    • 5

Inspect the feed bucket to make sure that all the wormer has been consumed. If you're unsure whether your horse ate enough wormer, wait seven days and then give the horse another dose.
