The fattest horse in the world was a Shire horse named Sampson. He weighed 3,360 pounds (1,524 kilograms). Sampson was born in Bedfordshire, England, in 1846. He was owned by Thomas Cleaver, a farmer who exhibited Sampson at fairs and agricultural shows. Sampson toured England and Scotland, and he was even exhibited in the United States. He died in 1857 at the age of 11.
