How to Macrame a Horse Bridle

Macrame is an ancient craft that uses string and knots to make various items, such as a choker or a horse bridle. You can use several of the macramé knots, such as the hitch, square knot or bar, to create a bridle. You will need strong cord or twine to make a bridle. Cotton cord accepts knots better than other cord materials.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two 60-inch and two 15-inch lengths of the cord.

    • 2

Fold the two 60-inch lengths of cord in half. Pull the loop through the back end of the snap. Slide the loose end through the loop. Repeat for the second one.

    • 3

Create a simple knot by creating a loop and pulling the strings through it.

    • 4

Pull the strand farther to the left under the center strand and through the loop made by the right strand. Then, take the strand now on the right over the center cords and over the left cord. Take the left cord under the center cords and through the loop on the left. Tighten. This is a square knot. Repeat until you have about a foot of cord knotted.

    • 5

Check the size of the braided cord by draping it down behind the horse's ears. Braid more if you need a longer cord. Ensure that you leave room for the second hook.

    • 6

Thread the ends through the second hook. Pull the strand under the cord and through the loop. Repeat, if necessary and tighten. Repeat for all four strands. Trim the excess.

    • 7

Half another strand, wrap the folded end around the already braided cord and push the loose ends through the loop. Repeat with a second strand. Use the square knot to make a 7-inch section. Knot the end of each strand. Cut the excess. About five inches down the cord, repeat the same process for a second 7-inch cord.

Cross the two strands. Remove and add hot glue. Cross the two again. Fold both strands vertically around the browband. Apply glue in the front and back between the cords. Hold it down for about five minutes to ensure that the strands hold.
