How to Measure a Mini Pony for a Bridle Size

While miniature ponies are all smaller than typical horses or ponies, they do come in a variety of sizes, so not all bridles made for miniature ponies will fit every individual. Some manufacturers produce bridles in "miniature pony" size, but there is not a universal standard to this sizing, so the actual measurements of the bridles may differ between manufacturers. Obtaining accurate measurements of your miniature pony before purchasing a bridle will ensure that the bridle you do purchase fits your pony correctly and will help you avoid having to make unnecessary alterations to the bridle.

Instructions

Secure your miniature pony by putting on a halter and either putting the pony in cross ties or having a handler hold the pony.

    • 2

Measure the distance from one corner of the pony's mouth, over the top of the pony's head just behind the ears, and down to the corner of the other side of the pony's mouth. It is easiest to use a cloth tape measure for this.

Measure the distance around the pony's nose where the noseband will sit. Start with the tape measure on one side of the pony's face, just behind the corner of its lips and just in front of the curve of the bottom of its jaw. Wrap the tape measure over the top of its nose, down the other side and under its chin. Record the measurement where the tape measure rejoins itself.

Record both measurements. When purchasing a bridle, most bridles are measured according to the distance from each corner of the mouth and over the pony's head. However, having the noseband size can assist in verifying that the bridle will fit appropriately.
