How to Size a Western Saddle

If you have a Western saddle that fits your body perfectly, you want to make sure you get the same size seat when you buy a new one. Measuring the seat on a Western saddle is not difficult, but you do need to know exactly where to take that measurement.

      Place the saddle on a sturdy stand. It is easier to get an accurate measurement with the saddle on a sturdy surface.

      Locate the hole just behind the front swell of the saddle, below where the saddle horn attaches to the saddle. Place your measuring tape at the front of that hole.

      Extend the measuring tape to the back of the saddle seat. Note the measurement on the tape--this is the size of your Western saddle seat.
