How to Waterproof a Horse Blanket

Waterproof horse blankets are a great addition to any horse owners tack supply. Blankets can stay water repellent for months or years, depending on how often they are used and how they are stored. Instead of buying a new blanket each time the water-repellent coating deteriorates, apply durable water repellent (DWR) to the blanket right at home. DWR is a silicone or fluorocarbon-based treatment applied to outerwear fabrics to help keep them from becoming saturated. DWR comes in a spray-on or wash-in applications, and each is equally effective.
