Instructions

  1. Homemade Saddle Rack

    • 1

Attach a 4-by-4 --- cut to be a couple inches longer than saddle and blanket length --- to barn wall. Use stud finder to find frame behind wall. Measure up from the floor about waist height and mark for hook placement. Drill a starter hole into the stud and screw a heavy-duty hook into hole. Drill a starter hole into the center of one end of 4-by-4. Screw in the eye. Slip the eye over the hook to mount 4-by-4 to wall.

    • 2

Attach two panels of wire cube shelving material together. Connect wire shelving to form a "V" and place over 4-by-4.

    • 3

Place saddle blankets and saddles over top of the wire racks.

    Hanging Storage Solution

    • 4

Drill holes in barn wall sheet rock for hanging storage. Measure and mark desired locations for storage pegs, spacing them evenly along the wall.

    • 5

Measure length of tack to determine height for peg locations.

    • 6

Drill holes into marked locations. Use a drill bit sized to accommodate your desired wooden peg dimensions.

    • 7

Screw pegs into holes and use to hang bridles, hats, ropes, halters, lead lines and any other hanging tack.

    Homemade Shelving

    • 8

Determine a space appropriate for built-in shelves. Measure from floor up to desired shelf height. Draw lines horizontally across wall --- lines should be to the length you desire for shelves. Leave 12 to 24 inches between lines, depending on depth of shelf you desire. Draw a line for each shelf you need. Use level to be sure lines are straight.

    • 9

Locate framing behind walls using stud finder. Mark studs along lines to determine placement for shelf brackets.

    • 10

Mount 10-inch shelf brackets. Drill small starter hole in marked stud locations, then attach brackets using wood screws.

    • 11

Mount 1-by-10-inch pine boards to shelf brackets. Use wood screws to secure boards to brackets.

    • 12

Stack heavier horse tack on lower shelves. Stack plastic bins on upper shelves to store gloves, hoof picks, brushes, combs, and other grooming tools.
