How to Repair a Ricotta Saddle

No matter how thick or strong the leather on a Holly Ricotta Saddle may be, it is vulnerable to neglect. If your saddle has become dried out, damaged or scratched, steps can be taken to rejuvenate it to make it almost like new. A Holly Ricotta Saddle is part of a saddle collection made by Pish Saddlery. The saddles are made of thick leather that is worked to form the right shape and tooled in certain areas for decoration. Although the saddles are a relatively new collection sold by a company that is less than 10 years old, according to the Pish website, they are made in the United States by saddle craftsmen with decades of experience in the profession.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe off any dust or dirt with a damp cloth.

    • 2

Wipe a damp, clean cloth over some saddle soap until you get a thick soapy lather on the cloth. Apply the saddle soap to the Ricotta saddle, beginning on one side and working your way over the entire saddle. Allow the leather to absorb the saddle soap for an hour. Buff dry with a dry cloth. Repeat this step to adequately soften up and restore moisture to the damaged saddle.

    • 3

Apply leather filler to any scrapes or scratches in the Ricotta saddle. Leave the filler to dry and apply another coat until the filler is level with the surrounding leather. Gently sand down any excess filler after it dries.
