How to Clean Cordura Saddles

No matter what type of horse you own or what type of riding you prefer, you need to have a top quality tack and keep it in good shape. Riders have a choice of materials, including traditional leather saddles and saddles constructed of synthetic materials. Cordura saddles are the latter type. The cleaning procedure for this kind of saddle is different from what a simple leather saddle would demand.

Instructions

    • 1

Dampen a soft cloth in warm water and clean the soiled areas of the Cordura saddle. Clean the fenders and stirrup leathers thoroughly, and wrap the damp cloth around the stirrups to remove any caked on mud. Run the damp cloth over the back of the saddle to remove any light dust and dirt.

    • 2

Wet a sponge and squeeze a bit of dish washing liquid on to it. Sponge any areas that are heavily soiled, then clean the excess soap away with a damp cloth.

    • 3

Dip a soft cloth in neatsfoot oil or saddle soap and use it to clean the front jockey and cantle binding. These are the only parts that use leather, so they still need to be cleaned with a leather cleaner. Wipe away any excess oil or soap with a soft dry cloth.
