How do I Get the Right Size Girth for a Wintec VSD?

Synthetic saddles like the Wintec VSD are becoming more popular, both in the schooling arena and on the trail. Synthetic saddles in general, and Wintec saddles in particular, have a number of important advantages for horse owners, including light weight, durability, and the ability to clean the saddle with nothing more than soap and water. But no matter how you plan to use your Wintec VSD saddle, getting the right size girth for your horse is critical.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand your horse on a level surface. It is helpful to place the horse in cross ties, since it gives you more freedom to move around without the horse changing positions or pulling on the rope.

    • 2

Place the saddle pad you plan to use with your Wintec VSD on the horse's back, just behind the withers. Some saddle pads are thicker than others, and the thickness of the pad could influence the girth size you need.

    • 3

Position the Wintec VSD so that it sits on top of the saddle pad, just as it would if you were riding. Make sure the saddle is properly positioned before continuing.

    • 4

Walk around to the off side of the horse. This is the left side as you face the horse. Lift up the flap on the Wintec VSD saddle and find the billets. These are the straps to which the girth attaches.

    • 5

Tie a string to the next to last hole in the billet strap. Leave the rest of the roll of string on the ground and walk around to the other side of the horse.

    • 6

Reach under the horse and grab the roll of string. Bring the string up to the second hole in the billet strap in the near side of the Wintec VSD. Cut the string and tie it through the hole.

    • 7

Mark the string at the point where it attaches to the billet straps. Remove the string and measure it carefully. This is the size girth you need for your horse.
