How to Customize a Horse Trailer

Customizing a horse trailer can be simple or difficult depending on the intricacy of the design. A basic trailer with a small tack area will generally come with a couple of saddle racks and bridle hooks. Interior lights are used many times to make trailering and packing in the dark easier. A trailer may be customized for trail riding or horse shows with a few different pieces. There is no limit to what can be done to make trailering a better experience for both horse and rider, it just depends on your needs.

Instructions

  1. Tack room

    • 1

Place a large tack trunk in the floor of the tack room for grooming products and extra tack such as bits.

    • 2

Add storage bins for saddle pads, leg wraps, stall curtains and other miscellaneous equipment. Organize and label each storage bin for quick access.

    • 3

Install battery-operated magnetic lights if you plan on traveling in the dark. These can be used for changing clothes or late night traveling.

    Trailer

    • 4

Hang one hay bag in each stall section for the horse to eat while traveling.

    • 5

Mount a battery powered personal fan in the back of each stall section as close to the ceiling as possible to keep the horse dry and cool while on the trailer. Be sure the horse is accustomed to a fan before turning it on while the horse is in the trailer.

    • 6

Add a quick-release trailer tie to each stall divider, and adjust to the length desired so each horse can comfortably reach their hay bag.

    • 7

Apply customized decals to outside of trailer to include barn logos, safety signs and reflective strips. Apply the safety signs on the back and sides of the trailer so other drivers are aware of the animals inside.

    • 8

Measure and cut rubber stall mats for the floor of the trailer to preserve the floor of the trailer and offer comfort to the horse.
