Unicorn
-
Many little girls have fantasized about riding a snow-white unicorn across a field of flowers. Horse owners can live that fantasy by transforming their mount into a unicorn and themselves into a fairy princess. This costume is also one of the easiest to make, since the only addition necessary for the horse is a single horn. This horn can be crafted from construction paper, or even from an old paper towel roll that has been painted with sparkly paint and glitter. Riders can complete the look by purchasing a fairy princess Halloween costume, complete with wings and magic wand.
Sheep
-
Transform your horse into a sheep and yourself into a shepherd. This costume is also relatively simple to make, especially if you already have an old horse blanket lying around. To create your sheep, cover the entire surface of the blanket with glue, then carefully glue on cotton balls. You can use a horse hood covered with cotton ball "fleece" to complete the look. Once your "sheep" is ready, simply make or purchase a shepherd costume, and you are ready for the show ring.
Dragon
-
Turning your horse into a dragon will get you plenty of attention in your next costume class. The heart of this costume is also an old horse blanket, but instead of covering it with cotton balls you will cover it with "scales" in the form of green sequins. This costume can take some time to make, especially if you have a large horse, and hence a large blanket. You can create a "tail" for your dragon by covering a tail wrap with the same sequin scales and wrapping your horse's natural tail. Complete the look by dressing as a knight in shining armor and displaying your captured dragon in the show ring.

Fun Costume Ideas for Horses & Owners
While horse shows often involve serious competition, with years of practice leading up to earning a first blue ribbon, it is often the fun classes that get the most attention from spectators. One of the most unique and creative classes at local shows is the costume class. This class gives riders a chance to show off their creativity as they transform their mounts and themselves into beautiful, or funny, creatures.
