Things You'll Need
- Landscaping poles, about 8-feet long
- Eight to 10 old tires (per jump)
- Hay bales
- Old barrels
Instructions
Go to tire stores or look on Craigslist or Freecycle.com for old tires that someone is looking to discard.
Go to a home improvement store and purchase two landscaping poles, about 8-feet long, for each jump you plan on having.
Build your jump in your ring by stacking two-to-four tires, depending on how high you want the jump to be, across from each other. Place a landscaping pole on top of the tires. Use more tires to create higher jumps. You can also create x-rail jumps by placing one end of each pole on the ground to create an x shape.
Find old barrels, wooden or metal, and lay them on their sides. Place a pole across the top to create a jump. For a taller, more challenging jump, you can stand the barrels on their ends and create an x-rail fence. Stacked hay bales can also be used in place of the barrels.
Make the jumps more interesting, while giving more visual depth for your horse, by placing a long wooden planter or two filled with plants under your taller jumps.
