How to Build Horse Pole Bending Bases

Pole bending is an exciting equine sport, and one of the hardest for horse and rider to master. It takes a lot of practice before the horse and his rider can weave flawlessly through a set of six poles, execute a rollback and weave back through those same poles.To practice the pattern, you can purchase pole bases, which can be expensive, or you can build your own and save some money with the DIY project.

Things You'll Need

  • Six large metal coffee cans
  • Cement mix
  • Water
  • Six 8-foot lengths of PVC pipe

      Collect six large coffee cans; metal or aluminum cans work best.

      Empty a bag of cement mix into a wheelbarrow or mixing tray and mix with water according to label directions. Fill a coffee can with the cement mixture.

      Place a piece of 8-foot PVC pipe in the middle of the coffee can and hold or secure in place while the cement hardens. Each PVC pipe should be the same length.

      Fill the next coffee can with the cement mixture and put the next pipe in place. Continue until you have a set of six poles.
