How to Identify Macpherson Saddle Stamps

MacPherson saddles are popular choices for both show riders and trail riders, but it is important for shoppers to make sure they are getting what they pay for. Most saddle makers make it easier for shoppers to get the quality they expect by stamping their names into the leather. Shoppers looking at used MacPherson saddles should examine their saddles closely to make sure that stamp is present.

Place the saddle on a sturdy stand. It will be easier to examine the saddle and look for the stamp if it is sitting on a sturdy surface.

    • 2

Locate the small leather adornment right under the saddle horn on the left side of the saddle. Look for the MacPherson logo stamped into the leather. If the saddle is old or dirty this stamp can be hard to read--use the magnifying glass and flashlight to read the stamp if necessary.

Examine the stirrup leather and look for a stamp on the bottom of the stirrup leather, right above where the stirrup attaches. Examine the stamp carefully to make sure it is a MacPherson stamp.
