Beta harnesses are a Biothane product. They are a synthetic harness with a vinyl coating and are much more durable and easier to clean than other synthetic products. Biothane materials are used in places like ambulance gurneys where straps are durable and easy to disinfect. Beta harnesses are used on horses because they are so easy to clean, compared to leather, and they last a long time. They also have more grip, or traction, compared to other synthetics, which is important when controlling the horse. Clean beta harnesses using one of several methods: wiping with plain water, using the washing machine or disinfecting it.

Wet a cloth with a disinfectant and wipe down the harness. This disinfects the harness, which is particularly important if it was used on a horse with an infection.
