How to Make Equine Rhythm Beads

Equine rhythm beads are a quickly growing trend across all horse disciplines. While some just enjoy rhythm beads as a decoration around their horse's neck, many people are using them to keep their horse focused by reducing outside distractions and help both horse and rider maintain a steady, even gait. Over time, the soft jingling of bells on the rhythm beads' necklace will soothe and calm your horse.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure your horse's "drive line" -- from the base of the neck, up and around the withers. Add 1 to 2 inches to the length so the beads will sit comfortably on your horse's neck. This is the length the leather lace should be.

    • 2
Sleigh bells create the sound for rhythm beads.

String the beads through the leather lace. Intersperse five to seven sleigh bells evenly between the beads. For a smaller horse, five bells will be sufficient. For an average or draft size horse, seven bells are recommended.

    • 3

Tie the ends of the leather lace together loosely.

    • 4

Fit the rhythm beads around your horse's neck to ensure proper sizing. Make adjustments as needed and tie a tight knot at the ends of the leather lace.
