How to Tie a Lariat to a Saddle

It doesn't matter if you are a rodeo king or a casual rider if you plan on riding a horse. Proper gear, application and execution is important to ensure the safety of you and the animal. The western roping saddle is designed for cattle work and is a common saddle that many riders choose. The saddle is equipped to hold rope while the horse is not being ridden. Take the time to learn how to properly tie a lariat to this saddle.

      Stand in front of the horse and locate the off side of the animal. This is the right-hand side when you are mounted. Hold your rope on this side of the horse.

      Unlatch the saddle rope strap and loop it around counterclockwise through the rope. Work the strap tight against the saddle horn as you go. Wrap the rope around the saddle horn two to three times.

      Buckle the rope strap while ensuring that the rope is tight against the saddle horn.

      Coil the rope loop with the small loop that the rope feeds through to create the lasso. Position the lasso on the outside of the coil facing frontward. This will hellp you rebuild your loop quickly during competition.
