Things You'll Need
- Saddle stand
- Flashlight
- Magnifying glass
Instructions
Place the saddle on a sturdy stand in a spot where you can easily get to both sides and the front and back of the saddle. Locate the Tex Tan maker's mark and the bull emblem at the bottom of the stirrup leather on the near (left) side.
Lift the stirrup over the seat of the saddle and look for a series of numbers stamped into the leather. Depending on the adjustment of the stirrups, you may need to remove the stirrup to find the serial number.
Check the back of the cantle, just behind the seat of the saddle, for a serial number if you don't find one stamped into the stirrup leather. Also look under the small flap on the left side of the saddle, just above the cinch strap.
Use a flashlight or a magnifying glass to read the serial number if need be. On some older Tex Tan saddles, the serial number stamped into the leather may have become difficult to read.
