How to Tie a Riding Stock

If you plan to compete in horse shows, you need to have the proper attire. For riders competing in Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Reining and other events, part of that apparel is a riding stock tie. These stock ties are designed to go around the collar of your shirt, giving the finishing touch to your outfit and catching the attention of the judge as you move around the show ring.

      Lift the collar of your shirt and leave it standing up. This gives you more room to work and position the riding stock.

      Position the riding stock so that the slit or hole in the tie is at the exact center of the back of your neck. Find one end of the stock tie and pull it through that hole or slit. You should now have the two ends of the stock tie hanging at the front of your shirt.

      Hold both ends of the stock tie and run the right end under the left Pull the knot tight.

      Run the right end of the riding stock tie through the left to form a square knot. Pull both ends of the tie to tighten it.
