How to Make My Saddle Sticky

No matter what style of riding you prefer or which equine sports you compete in, you rely on your saddle to keep you safe and secure. But that safety and security can be compromised when your saddle seat is slippery. Leather saddles can be particularly slick on both Western and English saddles, but there are some things you can do to make that seat less slippery and more sticky.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a stiff-bristled brush on a suede saddle seat. Brush against the grain of the suede to make the fabric stand up and give it more grip. Brush the saddle seat against the grain before each ride.

    • 2

Clean a leather saddle seat with a quality saddle soap that contains glycerin. A glycerin saddle soap can give the saddle seat more grip while keeping it clean.

    • 3

Avoid leather polishes and leather conditioners when cleaning and caring for your saddle. Leather polish can make the leather too smooth and slick.

    • 4

Apply a product like Sadl-Tite to the leather. These products are packaged like roll-on antiperspirant, and you simply move the stick back and forth to apply it to your saddle seat.

Use full seat breeches if you ride English. Full seat breeches have suede on the seat, and that suede helps you grip the saddle more securely.
