How to Measure an Aussie Saddle

No matter what breed of horse you own, an Aussie saddle can be a good choice. Australian saddles combine the security and comfort of a Western saddle with the lightweight and mobility of an English saddle, giving riders the best of both worlds. Australian saddles are particularly popular for endurance and long-distance trail riding, but they are good for general purpose riding as well. But no matter how you use your Aussie saddle, it is important to get the right size.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the Aussie saddle on a sturdy saddle stand. It is important to have a sturdy surface to work with.

    • 2

Take the tape measure and place the end on the front of the saddle horn. A soft measuring tape like the ones used by tailors will work best.

    • 3

Run the measuring tape to the back of the saddle seat. Take note of the measurement--this is the size of your Australian saddle.
