Things You'll Need
- Saddle stand
- Saddle
- Tape measure
Instructions
Borrow a saddle from a friend if possible. Sit on that saddle and note how well or how poorly it fits. Measure the saddle size by placing the tape measure on the small round rivet on the front of the saddle and extending the tape measure all the way to the back of the seat.
Go to a tack shop or saddle maker and sit in several English jumping saddles. Note how your body feels and how secure your seat is in each saddle. If the saddle fits properly you should feel secure without feeling cramped.
Sit in each saddle as you would if you were sitting on your horse. Take the time to adjust your stirrups to the proper length, and sit in the same position you would if you were actually mounted. This is the best way to ensure that the saddle really fits your body. After you have found a saddle that fits you properly, carefully measure the seat size so you will know what size jumping saddle you need.
