How to Build a Wall Saddle Rack

Whether you are an experienced equestrian or a new rider, you will need a secure and sturdy place to keep your saddles. Placing a saddle on the ground can damage its shape and fit, cause severe wear to the leather and make the saddle old before its time, so it is important to use a saddle rack to protect your investment --and your horse. You can purchase a saddle rack from the local tack shop, but with a few tools and some simple supplies you can easily make your own for a fraction of the cost.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the 4x4 post and cut it to a length of 24 inches. Use a wood chisel to create a flat spot at one end of the cut post, chiseling one of the corners to a length of about 6 inches.

    • 2

Drill two pilot holes on the same end of the cut post, at both ends of the chiseled section. The wood screws will go into these pilot holes.

    • 3

Use two of the screws to secure the tie down hook to the flat spot you chiseled on the cut post. Make sure that the tie down hook faces up.

    • 4

Find a wall stud, and screw the eye bolt into that post. Finish your saddle rack by hanging the saddle rack from the eye bolt. Place your saddle on the finished saddle rack, and make sure it's balanced correctly.
