Instructions

    • 1

Cut two 18-foot lengths of soft rope. Cotton rope stretches over time, so a synthetic material will last longer.

    • 2

Lay the cords next to one another and grip in the middle. Slide the looped end through the end of the snap. Pull the loose ends of the rope through the loop. Pull it tight.

    • 3

Pull the left center strand over the outside left strand. Pull the right center strand under the outside right strand. Cross the interior strand by bringing right over the left one.

    • 4

Pull the new left center strand over the outside left strand. Pull the right center strand under the outside right strand. Continue this step until you have about 10 inches of rope left, or have reached the desired length of lead rope.

Knot the rope by folding the end back about until the fold hits the end of the braid. Slide the end under the braid and pull the end through the loop, and pull until tight. It should rest on the end of the braid.
