Instructions
Clamp the 1 by 12-inch boards together. These will form the ends of your wood saddle rack.
Make a mark in the center of the narrow end of the clamped together 1 by 12-inch boards. Measure out two and three quarter inches from the center mark in both directions and make two more marks at those points.
Measure down the long side of the boards a distance of 8 inches on each side and make marks at each point. Mark a diagonal line from the top outside points to the points on the long sides of the boards.
Use a saw to cut along the diagonal lines you made in Step 3. This gives the wood saddle rack the shape it needs to hold your saddle.
Pre-drill two holes in each end of the 1 by 6's about a quarter of an inch from the narrow ends and about an inch from each long edge, using a 7/64-inch drill bit. You can clamp two of these boards together and drill both at the same time.
Lay the diagonal-cut end pieces on edge on your work surface and connect them with a 1 by 6 on the uncut ends, placing edges and corners flush. Drill down through the pre-drilled holes in the 1 by 6-inch boards into the edges of the 1 by 12's to keep the wood from splitting when the screws go in.
Fasten another 1 by 6 to both ends by placing it at the points where the diagonal cuts begin. Turn the rack over and attach the other 1 by 6's at those same points on the second side.
Turn the stand upright and attach the remaining 1 by 6-inch board, placing it flush with the top edges of the 1 by 12's. Pre-drill again into the top edge of the 1 by 12's, then attach the top board with cap screws.
