Instructions

    • 1

Place 5 tbs. vodka in a spray bottle.

    • 2

Add 1 tbs. eucalyptus oil and 1 tsp. bergamot oil to the vodka. The vodka will help dissolve the oil, make it more usable and allow it to blend with the water and vinegar. Bergamot is a member of the citrus family, and the oil is extracted by pressing the peel of the fruit. It is a powerful antiseptic and is used to treat many skin problems. Eucalyptus oil is added largely for its fragrance; however, it is also useful as an antiseptic and deodorant.

Boil 1 cup water and add 1 tbs. aloe vera gel. Mix until the gel is completely dissolved. Allow mixture to cool.

    • 4

Combine the 1 cup water with aloe vera with 4 more cups of water and 2 tbs. apple cider vinegar. Place in the spray bottle with the vodka and oil mixture. Apple cider vinegar washes are a traditional method used by horsemen to add a shine to the coat and repel bugs.

Add 20 drops citronella oil and 10 drops tea tree oil to the spray bottle. This amount can vary by preference. Citronella oil is an essential oil derived from cymbopogon plants, which include basil and geraniums and is used in many commercial fly repellents. Tea tree oil, also known as melaleuca oil, is derived from the leaves of the melaleuca alternifolia. Tea tree oil is an antifungal agent and is used to treat skin problems, insect bites and stings, ringworm and wounds. It has also been found to be highly effective in treating dandruff.
