Decide what kind of tack you need. All horses need good halters and leads. Miniature horses can be ridden by small children or they can pull carts, both of which require special tack.
Determine how ornate the tack should be. If you're showing your mini, you'll want fancier tack than if your horse is just for pleasure. Even in a show ring, though, you won't want ostentatious tack.
Locate a store specializing in miniature tack. Most tack stores are designed for regular horses and won't have a full line of tack for minis. Check the store's return policy before you buy, especially if you're purchasing online. Tack won't always fit your mini, and you might need to return it.
