1. Locate the injection pump on the engine. It is usually located on the front of the engine, near the top.
2. Remove the injection pump cover.
3. Locate the timing mark on the injection pump. It is usually a small notch or line on the pump body.
4. There are two types of timing marks on a John Deere 4045HF275 injection pump;
- Static timing mark
- Dynamic timing mark
5. The static timing mark is used to set the injection pump timing when the engine is not running.
6. The dynamic timing mark is used to set the injection pump timing when the engine is running.
7. To set the static timing, align the timing mark on the pump body with the timing mark on the flywheel.
8. To set the dynamic timing, connect a timing light to the engine and adjust the injection pump until the timing light flashes at the correct point in the engine cycle.
9. Replace the injection pump cover and start the engine.
