How to Build Walkers for Mini Horses

Miniature horses are cute pets. They only reach about 34 inches in height and can live up to 35 years. Along with good hygiene and nutrition, miniature horses need exercise to stay healthy. One way to help them get that exercise is to buy a horse walker, sometimes called a hot walker. One will cost you about $4,000. But you can easily make a homemade version of one for significantly less.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy wooden posts at a hardware store. The amount needed will depend on how large you want to make your circular fence. The larger the fence, the more posts you will need.

    • 2

Use a sledgehammer to nail the posts into the ground, creating a circle.

    • 3

Buy welded wire fencing at the hardware store. How much you will need again depends on the size of your circular fence.

    • 4

Wrap the welded wire fencing around all the posts. Secure the metal wire by using a hammer to nail the fence to each wooden post.

    • 5

Use a sledgehammer to put a sturdy metal pole in the middle of the circle.

    • 6

Attach one end of a strong piece of rope to the top of the metal pole, tying the other end piece safely to your miniature horse. Make sure the rope is long enough so that the horse can easily walk around.
