Instructions
Tack up the horse and warm him up. Set up the barrels. Begin to put him through his paces. As you make the turns, note where you place your hands. Halt the horse and mark both sides with a washable fabric marker. Cool down the horse and put him away.
Remove the reins from the bridle. Make the rein length longer, if the rein adjusts.
Lay it out in a straight line before you. Take the left side and fold it at the mark you made.
Slide the short end under the longer length of rein creating a loop.
Push the shorter end through the loop. Grip the rein on both sides of the knot until the loop is closed.
Straighten the rein out again. Fold in the right side to the mark. Slide the shorter end under and through the loop. Pull tightly.
How to Make Knots in Barrel Reins
Barrel racing reins are a one-piece rein intended for barrel racers. Made of various materials, the reins must have some give and flexibility for knotting. Leather and thick nylon tend to resist knotting more than others materials such as parachute material. And each material dictates how much you have to go though to tie the knot.
