Ideas for Equine Public Presentations

The Equine Public Presentation competition is a national 4-H Club competition that requires participants to present a demonstration or speech on a horse-related topic to a panel of judges. Presenters are free to choose any horse topic they would like for their presentation, but it needs to be something they can talk about and hold the judge's interest for 10 to 15 minutes.
  1. Breeding

    • Horse breeding is an active and sometimes controversial element of the horse industry. You can base a presentation on a wide assortment of different breeding-related topics, including selecting the right sire for your dam, determining what traits to breed for, genetic conditions, equine bloodlines, natural insemination, artificial insemination, mare and foal care and breeding-related problems.

    Horse Health

    • For presentations on horse health, possible topics include diseases, treatments, advances in horse care to prevent diseases and injuries, pharmaceutical drugs, basic care issues, recognizing symptoms of illness, veterinary procedures, treatment procedures, barn first aid and the health concerns that affect mares, foals and other segments of the horse population.

    Riding and Training

    • Equitation and training offer the opportunity for presenters to show off their knowledge of a riding discipline or training aspect. Topics can include training young horses, training techniques or programs, retraining older horses, training problems, riding disciplines, riding skills, riding problems, riding aids, tack and training tools.

    Other Ideas

    • It is a good idea to pick a topic that has an aspect you can demonstrate for the judges. Topics like how to care for and repair horse tack, the history of a horse breed or riding discipline/event, disaster preparation, equine safety, careers in the horse industry, horse slaughter and equine law can give you plenty of information to present during the presentation.
