Cute Decorations to Use on a Horse

Decorating your horse really depends on what type of event you will be riding or participating in. This could be anything from a general rodeo with a western theme, to a holiday parade such as Christmas or the Fourth of July. Whatever the occasion, there are a variety of different items you can use to decorate your horse's bridle, saddle, blanket mane and tail.
  1. Christmas Parade

    • Battery-operated Christmas lights are a wonderfully creative idea to use when decorating your horse for a Christmas parade. You can string the lights through the reins or hang them on the breast plate. Garland is another item you can string through the saddle strap, the breast plate or twist around the reins. You can also braid your horse's tail with red ribbons and stick pieces of holly in the braid. Another cute idea for Christmas parade horse decorations would be to put a reindeer or Santa headband on the bridle or snowman pom-poms. You can also use a saddle blanket that has a Christmas theme or pin tiny Christmas bells or red ribbons to the saddle blanket.

    Fourth of July Parade

    • A Fourth of July parade is another occasion to decorate your horse if you are participating in the event. You can use a red, white and blue striped saddle blanket as well as a red, white and blue bridle or breast plate. Other cute ideas include attaching small American flags to the sides of the bridle. These types of flags are the same as the ones that attach to car windows and can be found at most party supply stores. You can also braid your horses mane or tail with red, white and blue ribbons or strips of material decorated with stars or flags.

    Easter Parade

    • Another holiday sometimes celebrated with a parade is Easter. If you are riding in an Easter parade, you can use a pastel colored blanket under your saddle. You can also braid your horse's mane or tail with bright yellow, pink, purple and green ribbons. Another cute idea is to attach a headband with bunny ears to the bridle, or glue plastic Easter eggs to the edges of the saddle blanket. You can also decorate the breast plate with brightly colored paper cut-outs of Easter eggs, attached with glue.

    Rodeo

    • A rodeo is another event in which you may choose to decorate your horse. Some cute ideas include braiding your horse's tail to match your own hair with a variety of ribbons and bows. You can also use saddle blankets with bright designs and add embellishments to your horse's bridle such as tiny bows, bells or even glitter. You can also paint your horse's hoofs with colored paint or glitter to make them stand out. There are special products for horses that are safe to use and can be found at most tack shops.
