Obtain the photo you want to use as the image on the poster. The photo can be either one you took or a free licensed photo from a website such as Creative Commons. Do not use copyrighted work to create your poster. The photo needs to be at least 300 DPI/PPI. DPI is a term that stands for dots per inch and, in the case of digital photos, pixels per inch. This will ensure your photograph is clear when it is enlarged, instead of blurry.

Edit the photo as desired using photo editing software on your computer. Use the cropping feature to select the portion of the picture that you want to use as your poster. The size of your poster is entirely your choice. The standard movie poster size in the United States is 27 inches by 41 inches. Add decorations as needed or desired and save the poster in a jpeg format on your computer.

Print out your poster. This can be done a variety of different ways. Poster printers can cost upwards of $1,000. A less expensive alternative is to submit your jpeg file to a website that prints posters and mails them to you. Another option is to load your image file onto a zip drive or email attachment and have it printed at a local office supply store print center, such as those offered by Office Depot. Be sure to specify the type of paper you want to use from the available options.
