How to Tie a Pack on a Saddle

If you've ever been on a trail ride or pack trip, you know how important it can be to be able to carry essential items with you. Making use of a pack or saddle bag makes it easy to bring along small items such as hoof picks, a cell phone and snacks without interfering with the comfort of the rider or horse. Attaching the pack or saddle bag to the saddle is easy, as most saddles are designed with features to accommodate one.

Instructions

    • 1

Put the saddle on the horse. This will make attachment of the pack easier.

    • 2

Locate the D-rings on your saddle. They should be on the left side of the cantle on English saddles and on both sides of the cantle on western and Australian saddles.

    • 3

Clip or tie the pack to the saddle D-rings. If the pack does not have clips or laces, tie pieces of baling twine to the rings on the pack and then tie it to the D-rings on your saddle.
