Games to Do With Horses

Horseback riding and handling horses can be loads of fun, and a great physical challenge for the rider/handler and the horse. Working with your horse to play basic games is only be fun, but provides valuable training for both horse and human. Knowing some fun and simple games to play is the first step in spending some great time with your friends and horses.
  1. Ride-A-Buck

    • This is a classic horseback game. Any number of riders can enter this game. Each rider places a dollar bill between his thigh and the saddle/horse. Horse and rider are then asked to move out at various gaits. The last player with the dollar in place wins the class and all the other players' dollars.

    Egg-N-Spoon

    • This game challenges balance. Riders must balance an egg on a spoon with one hand while riding at all gaits. The last rider with the egg on the spoon wins. The number of riders is only limited by the size of your riding area, as you want to be sure that it is not too crowded for people to have a chance at balancing their egg.

    Musical Cones

    • Place cones in sets of two in a circle. The cones should be wide enough for a horse to stand in. Have the players ride around the circle as music is playing. When the music stops, players must dash into their spots between the cones. Players are out if they do not make it, and the last rider to stop between the cones first is the winner. This game can get a little hectic with more than six riders at a time, so be sure to limit the class size.
