How to Clean Aluminum Horse Trailers

Cleaning your horse trailer after each use is important for maintaining the integrity of your trailer as well as keeping your horses safe. Improper maintenance of your horse trailer can lead to excessive horse waste rotting the floor of the trailer, which can prematurely break down. In addition, polishing and waxing both the interior and exterior of your trailer at least twice a year will help protect it and keep it looking beautiful.

      Empty your trailer. Remove all horse tack and supplies such as brushes, bridles and ropes.

      Power wash the trailer inside and out.

      Power wash your trailer inside and out. Beginning in the back corner of your trailer, power wash the floor, moving from the back to the front of the trailer to remove all dirt and horse waste. After power washing the floor, power wash the interior walls and ceiling, then move to the exterior of the trailer and wash from top to bottom.

      Wash your horse trailer like you would wash a truck or car.

      Wash your trailer with dish soap and water or car cleaner. Use a bucket of soapy water and wash your horse trailer just as you would a car or truck. Rinse the trailer thoroughly and allow it to air dry.

      Apply metal polish. With a cotton cloth or rag, apply polish to a 3-foot section and buff off the polish. Repeat this process over all the metal on the trailer both inside and out.

      Apply wax to the interior and exterior of the horse trailer. Apply two coats of wax, buffing the wax between each coat. This will protect the finish and help preserve the durability of your horse trailer
