The North Carolina Horse Council is a nonprofit organization whose mission is "to serve as the collective voice of the North Carolina horse community through education, communication and representation." It offers grants for education, community projects, and health and research. The limit for education and community grants is $1500 while up to $6000 is available for health and research work. American Quarter Horse Association

Founded in 1960, the American Quarter Horse Association is dedicated to funding research to help horses "overcome the problems and limitations that defy current scientific understanding." It provides research grants to colleges and universities in the United States, and as of 2010 had awarded over $7 million of these grants. Research topics include, among other things, colic, genetics, immunology, infectious diseases, nutrition, pulmonary function, and reproduction. It is a member of the Equine Research Coordination Group.
The Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation

The Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation provides funding for research related to the health and performance of horses. There is no cap on research funding but the average dollar amount awarded to each grantee is $71,000.
