How to Replace Windows in a Horse Trailer

If your windows are old, broken, not working or in any way dangerous to the horse, replace them. Walking into a dark "tunnel" can be frightening for many horses. Windows add light to this tunnel and make it more inviting to a horse. They can also help keep the trailer cool on hot days. Purchasing self-sealing ready-mount windows for your replacements greatly reduces the time and complexity of this project.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure your current windows. Purchase new self-sealing windows to fit these openings.

    • 2

Remove the old windows from the trailer, by either cutting them out or removing the rubber grommets, which hold them in place, and taking the window out.

    • 3

Make sure that the previous opening is cut to the proper size for your new windows, in case there were any slight differences in size.

    • 4

File off any rough edges on the window opening.

    • 5

Prime and paint the edges of the window to prevent them from rusting under the rubber grommet of the window.

    • 6

      Install the self-sealing ready-mount window.
