Things You'll Need
- 7-wire or pin trailer plug
- Small slotted screwdriver
- Needlenose pliers
Instructions
Disconnect the trailer brake emergency battery if your trailer is so equipped.
Loosen the small screw on the trailer plug housing with the screwdriver without removing it. Slide the housing down the wire and out of the way. Loosen each of the six screws and remove the wires from the screws. Slide the housing off the wire.
Remove the housing from the 7-wire plug by loosening the small holding screw without removing it. Slide the housing onto the trailer wire.
Loosen all the screws in the 7-wire plug just enough to get the wire under the screw heads.
Find the slot on the plug and hold it so that it is in the down position. Form a small right hook in the blue wire with the needlenose pliers. Attach the blue brake wire to the screw just left of the slot by tightening the screw. This is wire position two.
Form a small right hook in the brown right turn signal and stop light wire with the needlenose pliers and attach it above and next to the blue wire. This is wire position six.
Form a small right hook in the black battery charger wire with the needlenose pliers and attach it above the brown wire. This is wire position four.
Form a small right hook in the green clearance and tail lights wire with the needlenose pliers and attach it to the left of the black wire. This is wire position three.
Form a small right hook with the red left turn and stop light wire and attach it below the green wire. This is wire position five.
Form a small right hook in the white ground wire with the needlenose pliers and attach it below the red wire. This is wire position seven.
Slide the plug housing over the plug and tighten the screw.
Reconnect the trailer brake emergency battery.
Plug the trailer into the tow vehicle and check the lights and brakes.
