How to Size Ariat Breeches

Breeches are stretchy, yet tight-fitting, riding pants used mainly by dressage and jumping riders. Breeches are different from jodhpurs in that they extend to mid-calf length as opposed to jodhpurs, which extend down to the ankle. One popular manufacturer of riding breeches is the Ariat Company. Ariat offers a variety of styles and fabric choices and uses waist and inseam measurement to determine the correct breech size.

Determine waist size. Ariat uses waist size whether the breeches you are looking at are low-rise or at the waistline fit. Standard waist sizes for women run from 22 to 36 inches, and for men from 28 to 40 inches.

Determine whether you require a regular or long inseam length. To obtain the correct inseam, or inside leg, length, measure as you would for a normal inseam and then subtract 2 inches to ensure your breeches stop at mid-calf. Ariat breeches come in regular and long inseam lengths. The regular inseam length for women is 25 inches and the long is 27 inches. For men, a regular inseam is 34 inches and the long is 36 inches.

Determine size. Check available sizes for the Ariat breech you are considering. If either your waist or inseam is between stated measurements, purchase the next larger size. For example, if your waist size is 23 inches and your inseam is 26 inches, purchase a size 24L.
