How to Paint Corral Panels

Metal corral panels are a very strong type of fencing, but some horse owners avoid it because of the costs and the utilitarian look. Because of the strength of the fence, metal panels are usually used in small turnout areas for horses such as pens or run-outs. These panels need to be painted if not made out of a metal that is rustproof, though, because horses may kick out at and break fences compromised by rust.

Instructions

  1. Paint Your Fence Panels

    • 1

Scrub any rust off of the corral's metal panels with the wire brush. The paint won't stick to the panels if the metal is rusty. Be especially careful when you check the fence's welds for rust; these are places where rust is especially likely to show up.

    • 2

Paint the fence with the rustproof paint. You can either spot-paint where you've scrubbed off the rust or paint the whole fence.

    • 3

Wait until the fence is dry to the touch before using the corral again so your horse doesn't get paint on himself or scrape off the new paint.
