Instructions
Clean out clutter in your barn. Purging your barn of unwanted items, such as expired medications for your horse, broken or useless items and trash will speed up the organization process, making it more efficient.
Separate your barn into zones depending on how you use your barn, recommends professional organizer Kathi Burns. One zone can house the horses, while other zones can serve as storage for feed, saddles and equipment, and grooming and bathing supplies.
Move all the equipment into the new zones.
Organize each zone individually, taking advantage of any empty containers now left over from the original clean and purge. Empty containers and storage bins can now serve as homes for the equipment leftover after the cleaning process.
Hang shovels, pitch forks and other cleaning tools like brooms on hooks on the barn walls or interior poles. Cleaning tools should be hung up and kept out of the way to ensure safety for horse and rider alike.
How to Organize Sections of a Pole Barn
Without constant vigilance, barns can quickly become dumping grounds for old, broken equipment; empty feed bags; and torn horse blankets. Cleaning out the entire barn and organizing it into zones gives a permanent, logical home to all the items in the barn. This helps reduce clutter and keep you more organized, meaning you'll spend less time sifting through piles of junk and more time riding your horse.
