How to Tie a Double-C Rigging

Western saddles are symbols of the American riding style and are known for their durability and comfort for both horse and rider. Some western saddles come with double-C rigging, which is usually used for barrel racing or riding that requires a more "close-contact"-styled saddle. Double-C rigged western saddles have a front ring that is in the shape of a rounded "W." This rigging offers two buckling choices to allow the saddle to fit more securely on the horse. You can attach the cinch to the first or second ring and tighten it like any other western cinch.

Instructions

Place the saddle blanket and saddle on the horse. Be sure the blanket and the saddle are sitting flat and they are not bunched up or tucked under. Take up the latigo strap, which is the strap attached to one of the double-C rings on the saddle, and pull it through the cinch ring. Wrap the latigo back around the same ring on the double-C rigging. Be sure the straps are lying flat and smooth. Wrap the latigo around the cinch and saddle rings so that you have two layers of strap.

Take up the latigo from the last wrapping and gently pull it snug. Take the excess strap and thread it through the same saddle ring that the latigo is attached to. Pull this across and over the other straps and back through the saddle ring. Note that you will have a loop made. Pull the latigo strap down through the loop -- you are tying a knot.

Tighten the cinch by pulling on the top strap from the initial wrapping process. Take up the excess latigo through the knot. Tighten the knot by pulling down on the end of the strap to form a secure knot.
