How to Register an American Quarter Horse

American quarter horses are one of the most recognizable horse breeds. They are known for their speed, agility and adaptability, which allow them to participate in a wide variety of equine sports. Instructions

    • 1

Determine if your American quarter horse is eligible for registration. Your horse must be descended from horses already registered with the American Quarter Horse Association, and must also fall within the color guidelines set forth by the registry.

    • 2

Gather all of the required information on your horse. You will need to state who his sire and dam were, who the breeder was, his date of birth, his color, his gender and a registered name of choice in order to complete his registration.

    • 3

Contact the American Quarter Horse Association and request a registration packet. You also have the option to register your horse online, but you must already be an American Quarter Horse Association member in good standing to use this feature.

    • 4

Fill out all of the required registration information completely. The registration form will ask you for a number of registered-name choices, so make sure you have come up with additional names you like in case you do not get your first choice. Promptly return the packet with the required fees.

Review your horse’s registration papers once they arrive. Check them over to make sure that all of the information listed on the forms is correct. Contact the American Quarter Horse Association immediately if there are any mistakes in your horse’s paperwork.
