Find a website to place your ad. There are many to choose from so shop around. Many of the large 'all types of horses' places are www.equine.com, www.dreamhorse.com and www.agdirect.com. But there are also more breed and discipline specific websites out there. Ask friends and trainers what websites they use when searching for horses.

Read all of the terms and conditions, if there are any. Some sites are free to post horses for sale while others may charge a small fee.

    • 3

List information about your horse. Include age, breeding, registration information, discipline for which he is trained and health information. Be honest in your description of the horse. This will save you time as you will get less 'tire kickers' or inappropriate buyers contacting you

Take clear pictures of your horse from each side. Also take photographs of your horse while he is standing and while moving. Get a shot of his entire body, not just his head.

    • 5

Upload the photos onto the website. You may be charged to add a certain number of photographs, but good pictures can sell the horse. If the website only lets you put up one photo use a photo editing program to place 2-3 images into one image and save as a single file.

Respond as quickly as possible to an inquiries about your ad. You don't want to lose a sale because you took too long to make contact. When shopping on line most buyers expect to be able to reach you via email. So make sure you check your email every couple days at the mininum.

If the person inquiring sounds like a good match try and arrange to talk to the person on the phone. This will give you a better idea of the person and if it will be a good match. Arrange a time and date for the person to come see the horse. Remember to recommend they bring their instructor with. Remember that unless a purchaser puts a deposit on a horse it is not sold to them. If someone arranges to come see the horse sooner that is their loss. However it is considered good selling etiquette to let the interested parties know that there are other people coming to look at the horse before they are. They may choose to place a deposit or to move up their date of trying the horse out.

Let the seller know that they are responsible for getting the horse to their barn. You can suggest horse transporting services if you have any experience with one.
