Why were the calvary horses shod?

Cavalry horses were not typically shod. Horseshoes are a relatively recent invention, and they were not widely used until the Middle Ages. Before that, horses were either barefoot or wore a type of shoe called a hipposandal, which was a sandal-like device that protected the horse's hooves but did not provide the same level of support and protection as a horseshoe.
