Crickets should be housed in a glass or plastic container with a lid. The container should be at least 10 gallons in size for a few dozen crickets. The container should have plenty of ventilation holes.
Substrate
The bottom of the container should be covered with a substrate such as sand or oatmeal. The substrate should be kept moist, but not wet.
Food
Crickets will eat a variety of foods, including commercial cricket food, fruits, vegetables, and bread. Crickets should be fed every day.
Water
Crickets should have access to water at all times. A water dish should be placed in the container. The water dish should be shallow so that the crickets do not drown.
Temperature and humidity
Crickets prefer a temperature of around 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The humidity in the container should be kept around 50%.
Cleaning
The cricket container should be cleaned every week. The old substrate should be removed and replaced with fresh substrate. The water dish should be cleaned and refilled.
Handling
Crickets can be handled by gently picking them up with your fingers. Avoid squeezing the crickets, as this can injure them.
Storing
Crickets can be stored for up to two weeks in the refrigerator. The crickets should be placed in a container with some food and water.
