Things You'll Need
- Rope clamp
- ½ inch snap with 5/8 inch opening
- 25 feet of 5/8-inch, 25 lb. test nylon woven rope
- Lighter
- Pliers
Instructions
Heat the ends of the nylon 25 lb. test rope with the lighter to melt the ends of the rope together. This will prevent the rope from unraveling from use. Be careful not to hold the flame to close to the rope. The heat from the lighter will be enough to melt the ends but if the flame is held to close the rope may catch on fire.
Tie an overhand knot in one end of the rope. This will keep the rope from slipping through the hands of the handler unexpectedly.
Insert the other end of the rope through the bottom of the snap and fold the rope back against itself. At least 3 inches of rope should be pulled through the end of the snap so that there is enough area for the clamp.
Place the clamp over the doubled portion of rope at the base of the snap. Use the pliers to secure the clamp into place by squeezing the sides of the clamp together. Be sure to use enough pressure that the clamp is tight on the rope. If the clamp is secured well the rope will slip through the clamp if the horse pulls back on the rope.
